Workshop

Do As I Do!

Description

A hybrid between an artistic experience and a workshop, the artists take over the space where the toddlers are gathered and, using as few words as possible, begin to build shapes, towers and paths with wooden blocks. Using gestures and looks, they invite the little ones to join in the ephemeral creation. Once a path has been set up, they begin a repetitive movement, inviting the little ones to join in. They then continue the same process, using textured, colorful fabric ribbons that they weave through a structural chain-link fence. Subsequently, they propose a series of movements inspired by the visual work created as a group, which they repeat, inviting the toddlers to imitate them.

This workshop is related to the show:

Hiatus

Duration

30 to 60 minutes (depending on age average of the group)

Age group

2 to 6 years old

Capacity

In a daycare or family setting: 8 to 16 children and their parents
All other settings: 10 families

Offered after the performance of Hiatus, the workshop inspires participants to build on what they’ve seen, and to create their own blocks and movements on and around them. In this way, they work on their creativity, their ability to observe and imitate, their proprioception, their relationship to space, to others and to the elements. Together, they weave and create an ephemeral canvas from which each movement is inspired by the shape of a pair of tights, creating an unusual and singular choreography. They thus become a dancing chorus, moving in dynamics and dimensions different from their usual movements, copying their comrades, whom they discover in a new light. All this is accompanied by a variety of musical instruments, adding value to the experience by immersing the audience in a performance art form, where movement and music dance together.
